Our new three-year programme (from 1st January 2008 to 31st December 2010) “Marginalised groups achieving social integration” aims to promote personal development, participation and empowerment.
We believe that the best and most sustainable way towards social integration is through personal development with an emphasis on self-awareness. We propose a development process based on justice and equality, participation and democracy which allows individuals to handle their own progress (be it at a regional or local level) while ensuring sustainability. We also believe that the social inclusion of the underprivileged works best once they have ‘asserted themselves’ and in doing so achieve their own integration in a positive and creative way. Accomplishing this goal relies not only on external aid factors but also on embracing one’s inner strength and positive attitude.
Aim
In the Global South, Volens supports various projects and activities of partner organisations that promote creative, positive and a suitable environment for social integration to occur.
Whilst in the North, Volens encourages projects by solidarity groups. We facilitate the access to the right tools and activities for those willing to get involved in helping with the social integration of the underprivileged groups.
Committing to people, groups and organisations who share the importance of building capacities and strengthening abilities means that through shared actions and networking we are able to collaborate together.
We value the integrity in people, respect towards nature, integration of the underprivileged, participation, cultural diversity and reciprocity.
Partnerships
We are privileged enough to have many local partnerships in the South. These are organisations, institutions, even just groups of individuals who are aware of the social marginalisation occurring to their fellow countrymen and who volunteer their help.
By participating in this cause, they are providing not only the tools and knowledge but also the means to putting into practice our idea of personal development. However, many of these groups, organisations and communities lack support.
This often results in dissatisfactory outcomes. Therefore the need and demand for support (methodical, educational, and qualitative...) is vital.
We can work together with local organisations at a regional level towards a better identification of the collective and individual needs of underprivileged groups. By bridging this gap, we can more efficiently support our development plans.
Focus on two themes
Fields in which we would like to further our development plans with respect to building capacities and strengthening abilities are –
- Solidair economy
- Appropriate and alternative training
These two fields are key to a healthy development.
